About Shane Klingensmith
A diverse musician and operatic bass, Shane Klingensmith is studying in the field of vocal pedagogy while pursuing performance opportunities. Currently, he is a senior at Stetson University also studying theatre arts; he is expected to graduate in May 2012 with his Bachelor of Music.
Shane began performing at a young age in grade school where his love of music was developed in choir. Throughout this time, he performed in competitions such as solo and ensemble at both the district and state level, often receiving superior ratings in addition to simultaneously being accepted into all-county and all-state choirs on multiple occasions. In high school, Shane sang under the direction of Greg Carswell, a highly praised choir director and vocal teacher, who guided Shane into the collegiate world of classical music.
As a vocalist at Stetson University, Shane is a bass and studies with internationally acclaimed artist, Russell Franks. Shane has performed numerous solo recitals while continuing to sing in large ensembles such as Stetson’s premier Concert Choir (which he just recently went on tour with). He has taken part in multiple Opera productions with principal roles as Le Negre in Ibert’s Angelique as well as chorus roles in productions including Dido & Aeneas and Le Marmelle. Upcoming performances include the role of Simone in Gianni Schichi at the Stara Zagora Opera House in Bulgaria in collaboration with Varna International Opera Company in June 2012, and a solo voice recital at Stetson University.
As a theatre student, Shane has participated in productions including Almost, Maine as the character Danny and The Foreigner as the character Ellard. He is currently directing the one-act play Words, words, words by David Ives for Stover Theatre’s final production of a series of one-act plays.
As an emerging pedagogue, Shane works regularly with Dr. Craig Maddox (director of Stetson’s Vocal Pedagogy program), and maintains a private studio of voice students. With this developing experience, Shane looks forward to continuing his studies at the graduate level in pursuit of a Master of Music in Vocal Pedagogy.
